Welcome!
Tierhaus 23 is located in Elbert, Colorado. Founded in 2023, we raise Colorado Mountain Dogs, Angora and Nigora goats, Hedemora chickens, and heritage turkeys. We started with a pup, CCH Cadsuane, and an adult mentor, SCF Sasha. We quickly realized that Sasha needed backup to guard the goats, and we added DITR Cleo. Cleo came to us bred, so we dove right into raising puppies. With the help of friends and family we produced a litter of well rounded pups, socialized with adults, children, and livestock.
We are working toward the standard of tall, lean dogs with slender, non-drooling muzzles, easy-care medium length coats, and a beautiful athletic appearance. Along with their conformation, our dogs are selected for abilities which make them wonderful for small farms — rigorous guarding of livestock, less barking and wandering, and greater acceptance of people they don’t know, unless an actual threat is perceived.
From our first litter we retained 2 stud candidates, T23 Roque and T23 Daxo. In June of 2024 we added STHH Legend, a gorgeous silver pup. In July of 2024 we welcomed our second litter by Daxo out of Caddie. In spring of 2025 we partnered with Laskowski Homestead on a litter between Legend and RLT Khaleesi. We brought home a darling female puppy from the litter, LSK Legacy.
Our breed is at a stage that it still welcomes new genetics. These candidates undergo health and temperment testing before being admitted in the CMDR. I found 2 brothers in Oregon, Epic and Mythos, whom Toni Harms and I are evaluating as future CMDs. We are particularly excited as these boys carry the silver gene, and are completely unrelated to our current silver lines. Epic lives here at Tierhaus. His Embark and VGL results are back and he is clear of testable genetic diseases. He will have hip and elbow radiographs taken in the Spring.
At the end of December I brought home a second CMDR candidate, Bentley, from Emerald Mountain Boz Shepherds. He is 3/4 Boz Shepherd, 1/4 Anatolian Shepherd, bred by Aegis Guardians in Oregon. He has passed his health and hip testing, and his elbows will be evaluated soon. Health testing is very important to our program, our breeding dogs are DNA tested though Embark and undergo Pennhip testing to ensure hip health, as well as OFA elbows in the more recent generations. This type of testing is strongly recommended within the Colorado Mountain Dog Registry to ensure the health and longevity of our dogs. Breeding candidates will be evaluated for temperment, conformation appropriate for the standard of the breed, health and orthopedic soundness. A combination of these traits will allow us to choose the best additions to our program.
T23 Octavia will be the dam of our next litter this summer. If Bentley passes his evaluations and is accepted into the CMDR, he will be paired with Octavia. LSK Legacy of T23 will be our next expected litter after Octavia. If Epic passes his testing he will be paired with Legacy.
